A man from British Columbia was FIRED because he COMPLAINED about his Christmas gift.

Using Twitter, the man complained about receiving BBQ sauce as a gift!
He also ranted about how his US co-workers got MUCH better gifts!

Do you think the company made the right decision to FIRE this man?
Why do people turn to social media to rant and complain?
Explain.

  1. I don’t think the guy should have got fired. I don’t really think its right to fire someone that's just saying what's on their mind. But I don't think he should have ranted about the gift, he should have just moved on. Sometimes people rant on social media because they have no one to talk to or just doing it for attention. Maybe the guy thought people would feel bad for him and give him gifts if he ranted on social media.

    1. You're right it is illegal to be denied to express your opinion or thoughts.

    2. People shouldn't be fired for expressing their thoughts

  2. No I don’t think it was a good idea for the company to fire him because there are other solutions to this type of problem.comunication is key, so they could’ve easily talked things over with him and make things right again. I think people turn to social media to rant and complain because maybe other people won’t listen to them or they think that people won’t understand what they’re going through.

  3. I don't the guy should have been fired from his job because I think it's odd for a company to give BBQ sauce when his other coworkers got much nicer things but I don't he should have ranted on Twitter or what ever it is. But I don't think expressing your opinion should get you fired because it's part of your rights to be able to speak out like that but I don't it's something to rant. I don't know why people turn to social media to rant, maybe to see if anybody else agrees with them or if other people have suggestions to do something or just to calm down.

  4. Yes I think that the company did the right thing to fire him because he was lucky enough to even get a gift. There’s some people who didn’t even get gifts so he should be grateful. I think people use social media to rant out and complain because I guess there’s other people who have the same problems as them so they can discuss it. But I would never because once you have posted it it’s there for ever

  5. I think they took it too far, firing him maybe was not the best idea.. but he definitely shouldn't have complained on social media. Like he should at least be happy that he got something instead of nothing. If I was in that situation I would have kept the fact that I did not like it to myself or only told my family or something not on the internet when my co-workers or my boss could see it.

  6. I dont think they made the right decision to fire him, hes only saying that his gift isn't good its not like he committed a crime.I think he should still have his job. I think people use social media to rant for attention, there no other reason to post your feelings on twitter other than attention. unless you want to use social media to contact your friends.

    1. I agree. It wasn't like he did anything really bad. He just complained about his gift.

  7. No I don’t think the company made the right decision by firing him. There are other ways to solve the problem. I think people use social media to rant and complain because they want a lot of people to know what happened. Also they might be too scared to actually say what they want to the person face to face.

  8. I don’t know why they fired him. Maybe it was the right choice but who knows. Maybe at this company they are very strict, and don’t want any negative feedback about anything for their companie. I have no why poeple think people on the internet will care about there stupid problems, like if your family doesnt want to listen to you then you shouldnt be telling the internet. Well sometimes there are people that will comment and say things like, “it’s all right” , “you can do it” or something. But I guess people just want support.

  9. Whichever company made this decision made a horrible decision. Why would they not give the equal presents to everyone in the first place? It does not make any sense. If you are not going to treat people equally, then do not get all butt hurt once they complain about. Oh boohoo, someone said something mean about you when you treated them unfairly. Get over it and apologize to him or at least let him keep his job. People turn to social media to rant about stuff because if they do it in front of people, then they might start an argument.

  10. I dont think he should've been fired cause I mean he has the right to say his decision and it's his choice but I dont think he should've rant on social media about it he could've just texted the people he got the gift from or tell like the other people that got the same gift and not put it on social media , and I think people rant on social media because they want everyone to know what happend so they dont trust that company or that person , and to also get more clout but I think he could've just kept it to himself
