Blog 38 - Monday, March 16, 2020

A week after March break, the COVID-19 virus has shut down the school for TWO (2) weeks minimum.  I know MOST of you are probably very happy to be away from school.

For the next two weeks, Mr. Katz will be hosting some video conferences with his classes and will still be expecting his students to complete their blogs, readings and assignments.  As Shakespeare once said "The show must go on!"

Could distance education (education without face to face interaction) be the wave of the future?
How do you think the TWO week shutdown will impact your school year?
Do you think the government acted too quickly to shut down the schools?
Did your family stock up on supplies including TOILET PAPER?

Explain.

  1. I think the 2 weeks will impact the school year probably making us do it at the end of the year. I think they could have waited at least a few more days before they shut the schools down. My family did not stock up on stuff we just did our normal grocery shopping but the people that bought like 5 packages of toilet paper left the really low quality toilet paper for everyone else. My family isn't that worried about the virus, we just think that if we wash our hands, don't touch our faces, and don't come in contact with anyone who is sick or has been out of the country we will all be fine.

  2. I think distance education will be used a lot but I don’t think it will take over. Because teachers could be teaching online and students could be easily distracted because they are at home. I hope the 2 week shutdown will not take any weeks off of my summer because that wouldn't be fair. I hope that they take ped days instead of summer weeks off. I think that they made the right decision because Covid-19 is spreading fast so taking it off will slow the spread down. My family didn't really stock up alot but we have a lot of food.

  3. I think that distance education will most likely be used more often in the future, but it will not replace actual face to face education because some students can get easily distracted by things in their home. I hope that this two week shutdown of the school will not impact the school year too heavily. It would really suck if they made us go to school some days in the summer. I think that the government acted at just the right time when they shut down the schools. My family did not stock up on supplies, and if you do that, then that means you are a selfish, panicking bastard who is exaggerating. There are people who actually need to go get more toilet paper and to get more groceries, and these idiots stocking up on everything are preventing people from getting what they need. The apocalypse isn’t coming.

    3. I hate those greedy people but there is some good news; stores are dedicating certain hours of the day for the elderly to buy their groceries. Good blog and I agree.

  4. i think education face to face will still go on as a regular thing but i also think that if we do ever experience this again that this will be the solution. i think these 2 weeks off is going to mix everything up and is going to really just confuse everything. when we get back after two these two weeks it’s going to be hard because we’re going to have to catch up fast and i think it’s going to be stressful for all of us. i don’t think i acted too quickly i think they were on time and it was smart because now we’re avoiding the spread which can help a lot. my family didn’t really do much shopping, just some food and essentials. but my family did follow the rules and took maximum two toilet paper packs for each purchase like the stores asked for.

  5. possibly that would mean we would not really have to go to school we could just learn from home.these two weeks of school will effect everybody negatively because we would most likely make up these two weeks during the summer .no not really they did not act to quickly because there was possibly someone in this school went to a place that has high concentration where people have the corona-virus.no my family did not stock up on supplies.

    1. I agree. They did not act quickly. School should have been shutdown sooner.

  6. I think distance educating could be a thing maybe in the future but only if there’s emergency like this because they still need to learn but can’t go to school. It impacts the school year because it’s slowing are education so if we get back to school I think we will have to learn less because we won’t have time to learn more. No I don’t think the government acted to quickly because he didn’t want to same situation as Italy so I think it’s good he decided earlier. No our family didn’t stock up on supplies we already had.

  7. I think that distance education could be athing in the future but it is not good. with all the people talking at once it is very hard. I did not understand a lot the last video session we had. This will impact are school year a lot. If this virus dosent get better are school year may be finished. At that point i do not know wht will happen. I think the government did the right thing. Schools are super dirty and would help the virus spread. My family did not go crazy on toilet paper. We got some extra but not two librarys full. We also stoked up on food. I find that when you go and take a whole shelf of soap, toilet paper or hand sanitizer it is very selfish and it sucks because other will not have.

  8. I think distance education will be used in the future, but I think we will mostly do face to face education where we are sitting in a classroom. I think that the two week shutdown will impact the school year a lot. We will have to make up the two weeks so we will most likely be finishing school later. So we will lose like two weeks of summer. And if it doesn't get better we will probably not finish the school year like some school are doing. I think the government acted late to shut down the schools. I think they should have been shut down right away after march break. We should have not gone to school. My family did get some things, but we didn’t go crazy shopping. I think we got one or two bags of toilet paper.

  9. I don’t really think it could (for me at least) because I prefer face to face because I find it’s much more simpler than having to connect over the internet and having to fix all the problems and dealing with the lows voices. I don’t really know what will happen but we might get an extra two weeks but I doubt it because it’s material that we were supposed to know and study by that date. Yes I think we could have had another week of school maximum because the virus hasn’t really affected Montreal a lot. well not really because we know it’s just the flu and it’s nothing really scary that we have to stock up but the only thing we do have to worry about (for my family) is to not see our grand-parents or elderly family members.

  10. I don’t think it will be the new wave of the future because face to face is easier. I personally think that the school made a good decision by closing the school and I do not think that they acted to quickly because if they would’ve waited longer there would be a higher chance of kids having this virus. The problem in other countries is that they didn’t act fast enough and it got really bad. My family did stock up on toilet paper and groceries.

  11. I mean I think it can be in the futur , some people do it like home school online , so I think it can work but I hope its not in the futur because I like face t face better. I think it will slow us down , because we are not getting that much work done so I thin we need to catch up. No I think he maid a right desicion to cut down the schools because so that it doesnt spread . I mean I guess but were not overeacting.
