Don Cherry was 'FIRED/DISMISSED' from Rogers Sportsnet due to comments about calling immigrants "YOU PEOPLE" and the importance about why "THOSE PEOPLE" should wear poppies!  He has also made many rude remarks towards french people.

The Premiere of Quebec, Francois Legault, stated, "now I could watch hockey in English so I don't have to listen to Don Cherry insult Quebecers."

Should people be FREE to express their opinions even if they are hurtful?
What sort of tolerance do you have towards people who insult/humiliate others?

Explain.

  1. yes i think people should be free to say whatever they want. people shouldnt stop others and don’t have the right to stop somebody from doing something.its their life not yours. in the end their life choses effects only their life not you or others. sometimes the comments can be hurtful but like i said in the end it’s their life and whatever they do, they will have to face the consequences. even though i agree that it’s ok to talk like that my tolerance towards them is that i don’t like those type of people, i don’t understand why you would want to insult or humiliate others. if it’s your own opinion you should keep it to yourself.

  2. I think people should be able to say whatever is on their mind. Peoples opinions shouldn't really matter to other people because it is what the person thinks. But if people are insulting other people or humiliating them, I don’t not agree at all. I think Don Cherry was just frustrated with people not buying poppies so he gave his opinion on it and I think it just came out wrong what he was really trying to say.

  3. People have the freedom of speech so I think they should be aloud to say whatever they want even if it is hurtful (as long as it's not racist or sexist or humiliation someone), because even though he might have said it in a rude way he was telling people to show some respect towards all the people who fought for our country, I feel like some people took it the wrong way when he referred to them as "you people" for all we know he could be talking about everyone or a specific group of people, but we don't actually know.

  4. I find this topic kind of hard because I find that people should say their opinions but what he said was very rude to immigrants. I’m quoting my mom but “If what you want to say, will hurt someone's feelings you shouldn't say it at all” words of wisdom. Of course it’s always good to speak your mind, but if it's rude and don’t SAY IT ON TELEVISION. Ok, new quote “If you have something rude to say don’t SAY IT ON TELEVISION.” quote by me. I feel like Don Cherry should have kept that to himself. Of course there are plenty of people out probably thinking of the same thing. But it’s still not good to say things like that to people.

  5. i think that it is very stupid that don cherry is getting fired just because he said one little thing that shouldnt even offend too many people. I think Don Cherry should be re-hired because it that was not fair. I think people should say their opinion but not if it is very offensive and not in front of a lot of people.

  6. Yes i do think they should be able to say something even if its hurtfull especially since its from Dom Cherry because he always said stuff and they didnt care till now witch i think its very stupid he just had an opinion and its free world you can say what you want people dont have to like it if they dont wanna. I mean if it's something really bad and really racist I will say something but if it's nothing bad and it's not my situation i won't do anything because they have the right to say what they want and I can't stop them .

  7. Yes, I do think that people should have the right to express their opinions even if they are hurtful, racist, etc. However, I do not think that they should be allowed to say them on tv or anything like that because it will anger a lot of people. I have always hated Don Cherry because of his insults to Quebecers, and I think he should have been fired way sooner than just recently, but oh well. At least he finally got what was coming to him. I have little to no tolerance for people who insult others for no reason.

    1. I did not think of it that way. I agree even though I didn’t agree that people should express even though it can hurt someone.

  8. yes, but although it really depends it depends if its political be quiet and if its has to do with religion or racism you have to keep your mouth shut. well shouldn't have a low tolerance or have high tolerance but you should have a semi tolerance for example if somebody is being disturbing give them chance but if they go to the extreme then you draw the line .

  9. No I think we shouldn’t say hurtful things to others because it’s insulting to the person you're saying it to.What if the person was saying hurtful things to you, you would feel hurt.I have no tolerance against people say hurtful things or insult people because it’s rude and like I said before, what if you’re the one getting insulted.

  10. I think that people should be free to express their opinions, but they should not if it's rude or hurtful. It is their choice though and they will have to live with the consequences (if there is even any). Most of the time they don't mean for it to be hurtful. They are just saying what they are thinking. That’s why I think people should think twice before speaking. I think it’s really mean to insult or humiliate others.
